Patient Preparation:
1. Patient should empty bladder.
2. Have patient drink at least 0.5 liters of water.
3. Within 1 hour, collect the urine specimen in a urine container.

Quantity

Requested: 5 mL urine
Minimum: 1 mL urine

Processing

Receiving Instructions

Specimen needs to have the pH adjusted to between 6-8 using 1 M HCL (if pH less than 6) or 5% NaOH (if pH more than 8) within 4 hours of collection.  Freeze urine aliquot in plastic container at -20°C.

Stability: Frozen (preferred): 60 days; Refrigerated: 48 hrs; Ambient: Unacceptable. Do not thaw/refreeze.
