Description

Test Information: Quantitative RPR test with antibody titer. May be used to monitor response to therapy.

    Ordering Note: This test should be ordered for patients with a known history of syphilis. For screening new syphilis cases, refer to separate test Syphilis Reflexive Screen [SYPHRE].

      Ordering Requirements: Laboratory Medicine Resident (LMR) approval is required for this test due to the availability of DLMP assay RPR Screen with Reflex to Titer [RPRQUW].

      Handling Instructions

      Outside Laboratories:

      • Centrifuge sample and aliquot serum into a separate plastic vial. Refrigerate serum while awaiting shipment. Transport with a cold pack.
      • Required Information: Include the following on the DLMP requisition: Patient demographics (including address, date of birth, and sex) and ordering provider name and NPI number. Failure to provide this information may result in test delays.

      Stability: Refrigerated: Preferred.

      Requested: 1 mL serum + 1 mL serum for UW441
      Minimum: 0.5 mL serum

      Processing

      Receiving Instructions

      Centrifuge sample and transfer serum to two separate plastic vials. If sample volume is low, prioritize the sendout test (RRPRQ).

      • RRPRQ: Place serum aliquot in the refrigerated Sendouts rack (UWMT or HMC).
      • UW441: Freeze serum aliquot in the -20°C Immunology rack.

      Sendouts:

      • Order SKPH Test: RPR Quantitative (under "Syphilis Serology").
      • When completing the SKPH requisition, include the patient demographics (including address, patient ID, date of birth, and sex) and ordering provider name and NPI number.
      • Send refrigerated sample with a completed requisition to Seattle King County Public Health Lab, located at Harborview Medical Center Basement West Clinic Wing.

      Stability: Refrigerated: Preferred.
