Influenza A/B, RSV & SARS CoV2 (COVID 19) PCR Panel

This test replaces SARS CoV 2 (COVID 19) Qualitative PCR [NCVQLT]

General Information

Lab Name
Influenza A/B, RSV & SARS CoV2 (COVID 19) PCR Panel
Lab Code
FLRSNC
Description

The UW Clinical Virology Laboratory in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology incorporates the modified FDA approved Panther Fusion® SARS-CoV-2/Flu A/B/RSV assay for the rapid detection and differentiation of human influenza A/B, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) using real-time PCR.

The assay targets the influenza A viruses (matrix gene), the influenza B viruses (matrix gene), RSV (matrix gene) and SARS-CoV-2 (ORF1ab gene). Results are reported as Detected or NOT detected and a semi-qualitative result is provided by reporting the PCR Cycle threshold (Ct) value for positive specimens

Synonyms

Collection

Specimen requirements:

  • Collect swab specimens according to standard technique using a polyester-, rayon-, or nylon-tipped swab. Immediately place the swab specimen into VTM/UTM. Do not use calcium alginate swabs. Refrigerate (2-8°C) within 4 hours of collection.
  • Collect Broncho alveolar lavage (BAL) and tracheal aspirates in a sterile container.
  • Minimum sample requirement: 0.75 mL
Handling Instructions

Transport specimens on ice (ice Pak), store at 2 to 8°C for up to 72 hours post collection. If there is a greater than 72 hours delay before testing of the specimen, freeze at -70°C or colder and ship on dry ice. Do not freeze/thaw.

Quantity
Requested: Swab in UTM
Minimum: 750 µl

Processing

Receiving Instructions

Send sample to DIDD- Virology Laboratory (Central Laboratory, Renton) within 4 hours of collection.

Storage stability:

  • Within 4 hours of collection: Ship the sample to the testing laboratory.
  • If shipping is delayed: Store at 2–8°C (with ice packs) for up to 72 hours after collection.
  • If testing is delayed beyond 72 hours: Freeze at −70°C or below and ship on dry ice.
  • If a freezer or dry ice is unavailable: Ship immediately at 2–8°C (with ice packs).
  • Sample rejection: Samples stored at 2–8°C for more than 72 hours after collection may be rejected.
