The detection of Mumps IgG class antibodies in human sera by the FDA approved LIAISON® Mumps IgG Assay. Results are reported as either:
- Evidence of past infection (or immunization) with Mumps virus.
- No Evidence of past infection (or immunization) with Mumps virus.
NOTE: Immune status testing is intended to monitor vaccination. If an acute mumps infection is suspected, please contact the King Co. Public Health Epidemiologist at (206) 296-4774 to determine if PCR or mumps antibody IgM testing is appropriate. Testing is performed at the Washington State Public Health Lab.

Interpretation

The qualitative determination of specific IgG to mumps virus is an indirect chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA).

Blood: 5 mL blood in GOLD TOP serum separator tube (SST).
Also acceptable: 5 mL blood in ORANGE TOP rapid serum tube (RST), RED TOP tube or the following anticoagulants EDTA, heparin or citrate.

Processing

Blood: Harvest serum from whole blood within 24 hours of collection. Serum may be stored at 2-8°C (ice pack) for up to 7 days. Freeze at -20°C or colder for long term storage. Do not freeze/thaw.
Outside Laboratories: Ship samples on Dry Ice, do not freeze/thaw. If freezer and/or dry ice is not available, ship immediately at 2-8°C (ice pack), shipment time must not to exceed 7 days from collection. Samples stored at 2-8°C greater than 7 days old will be rejected.
Unacceptable samples: Cord blood, neonatal specimens, cadaver specimens, heat-inactivated specimens, or body fluids such as saliva, urine, amniotic fluid, pleural fluid or plasma. Specimens with obvious microbial contamination, lipemic or are grossly hemolyzed.
