Description

**Laboratory Medicine resident's approval is required for hospital inpatients and patients in Emergency Department.**

Persistent elevation of plasma factor VIII levels with normal C-reactive protein have been associated with increased risk for venous thromboembolism. It also predisposes to recurrent venous thromboembolism.

HMC and UW-MT Onsite Locations:Collect Blood in each of the following tubes: Preferred:4 mL blood in LIME GREEN PST tube PLUS 2.7 mL BLUE TOP tube
Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in GOLD SST, ORANGE RST, RED TOP, GREEN TOP or LAVENDER TOP PLUS 2.7 mL BLUE TOP

Offsite Clinic or Other Locations: Collect Blood in each of the following tubes: Preferred:4 mL blood in GOLD SST tube PLUS 2.7 mL BLUE TOP tube
Also Acceptable: 4 mL blood in ORANGE RST, LIME GREEN PST, RED TOP, GREEN TOP or LAVENDER TOP PLUS 2.7 mL BLUE TOP

The Laboratory MUST process specimen, within 4 hrs of blood collection.

** SPS will call for Laboratory Medicine Resident’s approval for hospital inpatients and patient’s in Emergency Department.** Approval is NOT required for hospital outpatients, clinic patients or outside clients.

UW-MT/HMC: Centrifuge RED, SST, GREEN or LAVENDER tube. Refrigerate serum/plasma. Take blue top to Coag lab for processing.

Outside locations: Centrifuge RED, SST, GREEN or LAVENDER tube. Refrigerate serum/plasma.

Centrifuge Blue top for 10 minutes, remove plasma & re-spin plasma for another 10 minutes. Decant & Freeze plasma (minimum 1.0 mL) @ -20°C to -80°C. Send frozen on dry ice.
