Factor II Activity

General Information

Lab Name
Factor II Activity
Lab Code
F2
Epic Name
Factor II Activity
Description

This test is NOT for Factor II Mutation, Factor II DNA or Prothrombin DNA. For Factor II Mutation or Factor II DNA, see: PRODS

Factor II (2) activity is used for diagnosing rare congenital factor II deficiency, investigation of prolonged prothrombin time and evaluating acquired deficiency associated with liver disease or vitamin K dependent factor deficiency. Occasionally, prolonged Prothrombin Time and decreased Factor 2 activity can be seen in patients with lupus anticoagulants or antiphospholipid antibodies with specificity for prothrombin (factor II).

Interferences and Limitations

Patients on bivalirudin (Angiomax), dabigatran (Pradaxa), argatroban (Novastan), rivaroxaban (Xarelto), apixaban (Eliquis), and edoxaban (Savaysa) may show prolonged clotting times. This may cause an under- estimation of the factor concentrations.
